On May 16, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 4 here in India, and its first sale is going live on Amazon on 23rd May (Tomorrow). So, if you are planning to buy this device or you are just curious about the Xiaomi Mi 4, then this article is for you. So in this article, let's take a look at the 8 things you need to know before buying the Xiaomi Mi 4.
1. Nomenclature
If you have read about the Redmi 4 in the past forget that. This is not the Redmi 4 that launched in China. This phone was launched as the Redmi 4X in China, Xiaomi has done this in the past. Redmi Note 4 sold in India sells as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X in other markets.
2. Design
Talking about the design of Redmi 4, it takes a lot of design cues from the Redmi note 4. It looks like a shrunken down Redmi Note 4 and given the price point, that's not a bad thing. The one major change is the placement of Camera. The Camera being moved up means the fingerprint scanner is a little higher than usual, meaning it might take some time getting used to. Given that some Brands have even more awkward fingerprint scanner placement on phones priced almost 10 times more, this one's excusable(I hope you got it).
3. Basic Specs
The dual-SIM (Micro+Nano)Redmi 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 435 chipset, that's 8 cortex A53 cores(Octa Core) clocked at 1.4 GHz each, coupled with an Adreno 505 GPU, and the Mi 4 is available in 3 variants: 2GB/ 3GB/ 4GB of RAM with 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB inbuilt storage respectively. There is support for microSD and also a 4100mAh battery backing it up. And all this while managing to weigh in under 150g. That's impressive.
Connectivity options on the Redmi 4 include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB with OTG, and 3.5mm audio jack. It also sports an infrared sensor.
4. Camera
As far as the Cameras go, the Redmi 4 has a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture. This is supposed to be an improved camera over the Redmi 4X and Redmi 4 Prime that was sold in China. The Selfie camera is now a 5-megapixel f/2.2 shooter.
Here are some of the pics taken on the Xiaomi Redmi 4:
5. Display
All variants of the Redmi 4 come with 5-inch 720p HD display, having a pixel density of 294 pixels per inch, not the sharpest. I would have loved to see the Xiaomi release the Redmi 4 Prime here in India which comes with a full HD Display, but sadly that's not the case. Anyway, this display is covered by the 2.5D glass for protection.
6. Software
On the software set of things, we have got Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, that is disappointing, given 9 months after nougat has been made available, we are seeing phones being launched with marshmallow, but the Redmi 4 does have MIUI 8 on top and that's heavy skin with its own tweaks.
7. Price
The Redmi 4 Starts at a price of ₹6999(2GB RAM/ 16GB storage) replacing the Redmi 3S, it is a sensible replacement given that the 3S lacked a fingerprint scanner. The 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant has been priced at Rs. 8,999, while the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage is priced at Rs. 10,999.
8. Where to Buy
The Redmi 4 is an Amazon exclusive and the first sale will happen on the 23rd of May at 12 pm, and the 4GB RAM/ 64GB variant will go on sale later in June.
Conclusion
So that were the 8 things you need to know before buying the Xiaomi Redmi 4. If you liked this article, make sure you share it with others through Facebook, Twitter etc. If you have any suggestion about the article please Comment below.
